#GratiTuesday: Colossians 3:13

This week I am grateful for forgiveness. I know that sounds cliche, but this is my blog and I’ll be cliche if I want to. And as my bfffff Tara would say, cliches are cliches for a reason.

12301754_10153186971036975_2715205849436186696_nMy gratefulness for forgiveness comes in two primary tangents. First, I am eternally grateful for the forgiveness that comes from my Savior. The guy who knows all my hidden sins and all the bad things I do, but still chooses to call me by name. Christ forgives what I’ve done (and what He already knows I’m going to do) and instead decides to see my potential for what I could be one day.

What kind of life would it be with no hope, which is what I would have without forgiveness? No hope to be better. No hope to be stronger. No hope to be happier, or smarter, or kinder. That wouldn’t be a life I would be interested in living. So I am grateful to be a loved child of the King.

Second-fold: I’m grateful for the forgiveness my friends and family extend to me on a daily basis. I am aware that I am not the easiest person to get along with all the time. I have my selfish moments, and I have my hateful moments, and my ridiculous moments, but my friends and family love me regardless of how bad I mess up. And I mess up a lot, but they always look to see the better parts of me, even on days when those parts are tucked way deep inside.

Without their gracious hearts, and their willingness to forgive my flaws, I would have no one. And I don’t think that’s a life I’d be interested in living either.

So, to my friends and family, thanks for forgiving me, and remembering that I can sometimes be cool, even when I suck.

Happy GratiTuesday! (Even though today is Wednesday. I knew this moment was inevitable. I knew I was bound to miss a Tuesday somewhere along the line…I just thought it’d be further out than week three!)

#GratiTuesday: “It is health that is wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver.”

Today I am grateful for my relative good health.

This seems like something small, but it’s really not. It’s a really big deal that I take for granted on a daily basis. The fact that I don’t get colds, or the flu, or have any kind of chronic pain is a huge blessing in my life.

I’m not trying to brag or anything, but I basically never get sick. I’m convinced it’s because I ate dirt as a child and refused to bathe, but look Ma, it all worked out in the end! I have developed a pretty stellar immune system, and for that I am grateful.

I can remember in college living in the dorms (#B1Sforever) how when one girl got sick, it was just a matter of time until the entire floor was sick. But I was never a part of that group…and it wasn’t because I spent the month in isolation.

pizzaAlso, I can 100% testify to the fact that I don’t exactly treat my body like a temple. I eat junk food. I stay up late. I don’t fitness (yes, I just used fitness as proper verb). My body has every reason to revolt against me. But it continues to be a brick house. And for that I am grateful.

Being sick is actually one of my greatest fears. I’m afraid that one day I’ll go from totally fine, to mortally ill. And I’ll get no warning. That one day I’ll use up all of my immune system tokens and then boom terminal illness. I’m not trying to make light of it, because terminal illness is not something I joke about, but making it a little lighter is the only way to console my fears of it. I’m constantly having to remind myself that God doesn’t work like that, trading tokens for health.

So until told otherwise, I’ll continue to live in the glow that is being healthy and I’ll try to not take my working extremities for granted.

Happy GratiTuesday!

Same old story, not much to say. Hearts are broken every day.

Sad seasons in life (broken hearts) sometimes align with sad seasons in nature (winter).

Sometimes people let you believe that they love you, never actually correcting you or telling you otherwise, they just go on not loving you. While you stand by idly. Trusting their heart. Surrendering your heart over to them. Living in an illusion.

And then, instead of fighting for your heart when the moment arises, they just walk away. And you sit at home. And cry. Alternating between listening to sad songs and binge watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix (or on DVD when Netflix also betrays you). While you eat unhealthy amounts pizza and puppy chow. Because that is what numbs the pain.

People tell you that it gets better. That you deserved better. But thostirede aren’t the people who just watched their futures go from happily ever
after to lonely cat-lady.

All it does is reopen the wounds when you talk about it to new people and have to explain all the nuances of your lost relationship. And your friends, your real friends, the ones who know everything and love you anyway, they are tired of hearing about Adr-eh-um-him. They are tired of hearing about him. So you fake it. Fake it until you make it, right?

And so you pretend to be okay. Because it’s exhausting being sad all the time. And sometimes you are okay; because life is full of distractions. And sometimes you go back. Even after you said you wouldn’t. “For real this time,” you said. But you’re in love. And you can’t help it. So you go back every time thinking things will be different. One day hopefully it will be. Or one day you’ll fully heal. But truth be told, I don’t want to just heal, I want him. But I guess I would settle for either.

And then you make a playlist. And then you blog about it. Because your word vomit has to go somewhere. And Lord knows that boy doesn’t want to hear it.

You are my fire, the one desire. Believe when I say, I want it that way.

The time has come for me to make a confession. This is a big one guys, so I need all of your support.

Okay…

Here it goes….

…theBackstreetBoysarebetterthanNSYNC

There. I said it. I feel so much better now.

I spent the majority of my adolescent life arguing the exact opposite. I was team NSYNC all the way (don’t get me wrong, I still liked the Backstreet Boys. I owned all of their CDs and, of course, had a favorite ‘boy’, and it was Brian Littrell!). But the time has come for me to admit the truth. The Backstreet Boys are the better band. Listen, NSYNC was good (and I would for sure sell a kidney to buy tickets if they were to ever go on a reunion tour. No questions asked). They were good at being a boy band. Their songs were fun and uptempo, and their concerts were crazy parties (speaking from a 2001 experience), and JT is arguably the most talented man in the biz right now…but the Backstreet Boys had better songs. Better love songs, better fun songs, just all around better songs. They are also more genuine, I feel. Not that NSYNC wasn’t, but it was more of a show for them. It was always about the show and the entrainment value for NSYNC, but BSB can saaaaanng.

I came to this realization while attending a Backstreet Boys concert two weeks ago, and it was possibly the most fun concert of my entire life. It was like I was 14 again, and it was awesome.

Me, Megan, Whitley and Warren!

Me, Megan, Whitley and Warren!

The Backstreet Boys are just better. And that’s all. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.

Any way, below you will find some of my favorite Backstreet Boys songs spanning all 7 of their albums released in the US (plus that one Greatest Hits). I will even color-code them for you!

2014 Grammy Predictions

Each year I struggle with whether I am more excited for the Grammys or for the Superbowl. This year there is not contest. I care very, very little about the Superbowl this year. [As a Chiefs fan, that is my prerogative. Current AFC West rivals Denver vs. former AFC West rivals Seattle (any ACF West team current or former is considered a rival, obviously). It’s lose-lose for me. For the record I’ll be cheering for Seattle, because there is nothing in this world that could bring me to cheer on Denver.] But I care very, very much about the Grammys (as much as someone who has no actual investment in the show or music industry can care).

I feel like this year, they might have done a fairly decent job with the nominations (minus the fact that JT wasn’t present on the list for Album of the Year). I think they manage to not choose the most obscure stuff possible, which is the norm for the Recording Academy. If you watch the show, and you keep up with music in any sense, you will most likely recognized 3/4 of the people, which is a fantastic concept!

I always like to make my picks prior to the actual give aways…because who doesn’t like to do that? Below you fill find the list of people I think will go home with the award, and people I want to/should take home the gramophone (of course you will notice I only choose winner for the awards I have interest in…because I don’t want to get involved in 0ver 80 awards).

******I will be live-tweeting this event. You can follow me here: @mistydawnclay******

RECORD OF THE YEAR (goes to the performer)

  • Get Lucky -Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams
  • Radioactive-Imagine Dragons
  • Royals-Lorde
  • Locked Out Of Heaven-Bruno Mars
  • Blurred LinesRobin Thicke Featuring T.I. & Pharrell

There is no way that “Blurred Lines” shouldn’t go home with this award. IT WAS THE MOST PLAYED SONG IN THE HISTORY OF EVER. And I’m hoping the academy recognizes this.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

  • The Blessed Unrest -Sara Bareilles
  • Random Access Memories -Daft Punk
  • Good Kid, M.A.A.D City -Kendrick Lamar
  • The Heist -Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
  • Red -Taylor Swift

I think that The Heist is a safe Grammy bet. I mean, it was independently released and has a “message.” It’s Grammy bait. But I think Taylor Swift should be the victor here. I mean, seriously. Did any of the rest of the nominees sell over ONE MILLION albums in a week? And did any of the other nominees have an album with more diversity? The answer is no.

SONG OF THE YEAR (goes to the writer)

  • Just Give Me A Reason -Jeff Bhasker, Pink & Nate Ruess, songwriters (Pink Featuring Nate Ruess)
  • Locked Out Of Heaven -Philip Lawrence, Ari Levine & Bruno Mars, songwriters (Bruno Mars)
  • Roar -Lukasz Gottwald, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee, Katy Perry & Henry Walter, songwriters (Katy Perry)
  • Royals -Joel Little & Ella Yelich O’Connor, songwriters (Lorde)
  • Same Love -Ben Haggerty, Mary Lambert & Ryan Lewis, songwriters (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis)

“Royals” should have this in the bag. It’s easily the most unique song and the cleverest. Which I’m pretty sure is what this award is about. I’m just fearful that the Academy will once again side with the message of “Same Love”.

BEST NEW ARTIST

  • James Blake
  • Kendrick Lamar
  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
  • Kacey Musgraves
  • Ed Sheeran

I want Ed Sheeran to win. Because he is the bomb, and clearly the best artist out of this bunch, but I just don’t think it’s fair. He’s not really a new artist. Last year “A Team” was nominated for Song of the Year, and I feel like the fact that he’s been nominated before should disqualify him. With him out the running, I think Kacey Musgraves should win, but I think Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will sweep.

BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE

  • Brave -Sara Bareilles
  • Royals -Lorde
  • When I Was Your Man -Bruno Mars
  • Roar -Katy Perry
  • Mirrors -Justin Timberlake

Quick fact: I want JT to win everything he’s ever nominated for.

BEST POP DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE

  • Get Lucky -Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams
  • Just Give Me A Reason -Pink Featuring Nate Ruess
  • Stay -Rihanna Featuring Mikky Ekko
  • Blurred Lines -Robin Thicke Featuring T.I. & Pharrell
  • Suit & Tie -Justin Timberlake & Jay Z

BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM

  • Paradise -Lana Del Rey
  • Pure Heroine -Lorde
  • Unorthodox Jukebox -Bruno Mars
  • Blurred Lines -Robin Thicke
  • The 20/20 Experience The Complete Experience Justin Timberlake

This is the best they can do after snubbing him in for Album of the Year. Give JT’s comeback album some real love.

BEST DANCE/ELECTRONICA ALBUM

  • Random Access MemoriesDaft Punk
  • Settle -Disclosure
  • 18 Months -Calvin Harris
  • Atmosphere -Kaskade
  • A Color Map Of The Sun -Pretty Lights

To be totally honest, I only recognize Daft Punk and Calvin Harris. And out of those two I like Daft Punk more.

BEST ROCK ALBUM

  • 13 Black Sabbath
  • The Next Day -David Bowie
  • Mechanical Bull -Kings Of Leon
  • Celebration Day -Led Zeppelin
  • …Like Clockwork -Queens Of The Stone Age
  • Psychedelic Pill -Neil Young With Crazy Horse

So many old guys in one category. But I think no one is more true, real rock than Black Sabbath. The Kings of Leon don’t even deserve to be nominated with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM

  • The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You -Neko Case
  • Trouble Will Find Me -The National
  • Hesitation Marks -Nine Inch Nails
  • Lonerism -Tame Impala
  • Modern Vampires Of The City -Vampire Weekend

I’m seeing a nostalgia win in this category. But I like Vampire Weekend more.

BEST R&B SONG

  • Best Of Me -Anthony Hamilton & Jairus Mozee, songwriters (Anthony Hamilton)
  • Love And War -Tamar Braxton, Darhyl Camper, Jr., LaShawn Daniels & Makeba Riddick, songwriters (Tamar Braxton)
  • Only One -PJ Morton, songwriter (PJ Morton Featuring Stevie Wonder)
  • Pusher Love Girl -James Fauntleroy, Jerome Harmon, Timothy Mosley & Justin Timberlake, songwriters (Justin Timberlake)
  • Without Me -Fantasia Barrino, Missy Elliott, Al Sherrod Lambert, Harmony Samuels & Kyle Stewart, songwriters (Fantasia Featuring Kelly Rowland & Missy Elliot)

The truth is I have no idea who the Academy will choose, since I know none of these songs, but I do know who Stevie Wonder is, and I think his name will/should pull some votes. But once again, I ALWAYS want JT to win.

BEST R&B ALBUM

  • R&B Divas -Faith Evans
  • Girl On Fire -Alicia Keys
  • Love In The Future -John Legend
  • Better -Chrisette Michele
  • Three Kings -TGT

BEST RAP PERFORMANCE

  • Started From The Bottom -Drake
  • Berzerk -Eminem
  • Tom Ford -Jay Z
  • Swimming Pools (Drank) -Kendrick Lamar
  • Thrift Shop -Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Featuring Wanz

Just so we are all clear, I know little to nothing about rap music. I know that I like Drake, because he seems to have feelings and in general is less offensive to me, not to mention he is incredibly attractive and also sings. But that is where my knowledge ends. I know who all of these people are, but I can’t tell you a single thing about what makes a rap song good. I do know that Jay-Z and Eminem seem to be crazy respected though…so there’s that. I’m calling it a toss up between them.

BEST RAP/SUNG COLLABORATION

  • Power Trip -J. Cole Featuring Miguel
  • Part II (On The Run) -Jay Z Featuring Beyoncé
  • Holy Grail -Jay Z Featuring Justin Timberlake
  • Now Or Never -Kendrick Lamar Featuring Mary J. Blige
  • Remember You -Wiz Khalifa Featuring The Weeknd

Oh look, it’s Jay-Z vs. Jay-Z. Side note: Maybe it’s just me, but aren’t alllllll rap songs collaborations???

BEST RAP SONG

  • F***in’ Problems -Tauheed Epps, Aubrey Graham, Kendrick Lamar, Rakim Mayers & Noah Shebib, songwriters (ASAP Rocky Featuring Drake, 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar)
  • Holy Grail -Shawn Carter, Terius Nash, J. Harmon, Timothy Mosley, Justin Timberlake & Ernest Wilson, songwriters (Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic, songwriters) (Jay Z Featuring Justin Timberlake)
  • New Slaves -Christopher Breaux, Ben Bronfman, Mike Dean, Louis Johnson, Malik Jones, Elon Rutberg, Sakiya Sandifer, Che Smith, Kanye West & Cydell Young, songwriters (Anna Adamis & Gabor Presser, songwriters)
    (Kanye West)
  • Started From The Bottom -W. Coleman, Aubrey Graham & Noah Shebib, songwriters (Bruno Sanfilippo, songwriter) (Drake)
  • Thrift Shop -Ben Haggerty & Ryan Lewis, songwriters (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Featuring Wanz)

BEST RAP ALBUM

  • Nothing Was The Same -Drake
  • Magna Carta…Holy Grail -Jay Z
  • Good Kid, M.A.A.D City -Kendrick Lamar
  • The Heist -Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
  • Yeezus -Kanye West

Personally I find Kanye West to be incredibly offensive. But I also recognize that everyone sees him as kind of a crazy genius.

BEST COUNTRY SOLO PERFORMANCE

  • I Drive Your Truck -Lee Brice
  • I Want Crazy -Hunter Hayes
  • Mama’s Broken Heart -Miranda Lambert
  • Wagon Wheel -Darius Rucker
  • Mine Would Be You -Blake Shelton

“I Drive Your Truck” is the sentimental favorite. And I feel like “Wagon Wheel” shouldn’t be allowed because it’s not an original song. This year feel like all of the country nominees are pretty dead even this year. That’s the beauty of country music, it’s all good. These are the hardest categories for me to choose, because not only do I like them all, but I also see them all as equally likely to win.

BEST COUNTRY DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE

  • From This Valley -The Civil Wars
  • Don’t Rush -Kelly Clarkson Featuring Vince Gill
  • Your Side Of The Bed -Little Big Town
  • Highway Don’t Care -Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift & Keith Urban
  • You Can’t Make Old Friends –Kenny Rogers With Dolly Parton

“Your Side of the Bed” is hands down the best song in this category. Buuuuut, Vince Gill has 20 Grammys, so they obviously like him.

BEST COUNTRY SONG

  • Begin AgainTaylor Swift, songwriter (Taylor Swift)
  • I Drive Your Truck -Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington & Jimmy Yeary, songwriters (Lee Brice)
  • Mama’s Broken Heart -Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally & Kacey Musgraves, songwriters (Miranda Lambert)
  • Merry Go ‘Round -Shane McAnally, Kacey Musgraves & Josh Osborne, songwriters (Kacey Musgraves)
  • Mine Would Be You -Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington & Deric Ruttan, songwriters (Blake Shelton)

The Academy likes Taylor, and for good reason. She embodies everything that they promote. Regardless of whether you like her or not, you can’t really deny her song writing ability (which is what this award recognizes). Also, she is the only one single writer nominated, so that should count for something. She is possibly the best writer of my generation. Also, I am partial to this song because it’s rumored to be about the love of my life, one Will Anderson.

BEST COUNTRY ALBUM

  • Night Train –Jason Aldean
  • Two Lanes Of Freedom –Tim McGraw
  • Same Trailer Different Park –Kacey Musgraves
  • Based On A True Story –Blake Shelton
  • Red –Taylor Swift

Anyone who knows me knows that I adore Taylor Swift, but “Red” is not a country album. Yes, it has a few country songs on it, but in general, it’s a pretty pop album. The fact that my bffff Tara likes it is all the verification I need. Other than “Red” I think this is a solid batch of country albums, it could go to anyone, but I think the Academy is going to send Kacey Musgraves home with the award.

Exciting excerpts from our trip home from California on from my bff’s blog!

Check it out!

Ribbons in my Nest

Last October (I know, it’s been forever), I flew out to LA to visit my friend Misty, and to bring her (and all of her things!) back to Missouri with me. She had lived out there for almost a year, and decided that California just wasn’t for her. You can read about her reasons for moving back here.

The plan went something like this:
Work a full day Friday, then take an evening flight to LAX. Spend no more than 24 hours sight-seeing, sleeping, and going to the San Diego Zoo. Drive back to Missouri by Sunday night so I can make it to work Monday morning.

Here’s the thing. Nobody knew Misty was coming back to Missouri except her family and myself. Normally, I would have flooded my Twitter stream with tweets about our roadtrip, but I couldn’t say anything that would give the surprise away. Instead, I…

And the Grammy goes too..

So, this basically become something that you haven’t been able to escape this week, here are my predictions for who I think is going to go home with a Grammy. These are necessarily who I would want to win, but it’s who I think will win.

Best Album of the Year
» The Black Keys – El Camino
» Fun. – Some Nights
» Mumford & Sons – Babel
» Frank Ocean – Channel Orange
» Jack White – Blunderbuss

Record of the Year
» The Black Keys – “Lonely Boy”
» Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger”
» Fun. feat. Janelle Monae – “We Are Young”
» Gotye feat. Kimbra – “Somebody That I Used to Know”
» Frank Ocean – “Thinkin Bout You”
» Taylor Swift – “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
(You know how much I love T-Swift, but “Somebody” was a a smash!)

Best New Artist
» The Alabama Shakes
» Fun.
» Hunter Hayes
» The Lumineers
» Frank Ocean
(I love all of these artists so much. This has been the deepest BNA field in several years. Personally I’d like to see Hunter Hayes go home with it, but I think he’s probably a non-factor in this race.)

Best Pop Vocal Album
» Kelly Clarkson – Stronger
» Florence and the Machine – Ceremonials
» Fun. – Some Nights
» Maroon 5 – Overexposed
» Pink – The Truth About Love
(I’m not sure that Fun. is going to go home with Album of the Year, because the Academy loves Mumford & Sons, but I think this might be a consolation prize for them.)

Song of the Year
» Ed Sheeran – “The A Team”
» Miguel – “Adorn”
» Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”
» Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”
» Fun. – “We Are Young”
(Man, I really, really, really want Ed Sheeran to win this one. Because he is the bomb. But I can’t see how there was a bigger some than “Call Me Maybe.” Carly Rae deserves to win this category. However, The Academy doesn’t always appreciate straight pop music. They usually go with alternative/indie stuff.)

Best Pop Solo Performance
» Adele – “Set Fire to the Rain (Live)”
» Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”
» Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”
» Katy Perry – “Wide Awake”
» Rihanna – “Where Have You Been”
(Will anyone ever beat Adele out for a Grammy?)

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
» Florence and the Machine – “Shake It Out”
» Fun. – “We Are Young”
» Gotye feat. Kimbra – “Somebody That I Used to Know”
» LMFAO – “Sexy and I Know It”
» Maroon 5 – “Payphone”
(If LMFAO wins this award I will be ashamed of the Grammys. It will be a very low point for them. And the other artists I don’t even really consider “pop.”)

Best Rock Album
» The Black Keys, El Camino
» Muse, The 2nd Law
» Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto
» Bruce Springsteen, Wrecking Ball
» Jack White, Blunderbuss

Best Alternative Music Album
» Fiona Apple, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do
» Bjork, Biophilia
» Gotye, Making Mirrors
» M83, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming
» Tom Waits, Bad As Me

Best Rap Album
» Drake, Take Care
» Lupe Fiasco, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1
» The Roots, Undun
» Nas, Life Is Good
» Rick Ross, God Forgives, I Don’t
» 2 Chainz, Based on a T.R.U. Story
(It’s time for Drake to get some Grammy love. If he can make me like rap music he’s gotta be something special.)

Best Country Song
» Carrie Underwood – “Blown Away”
» Ronnie Dunn -“Cost of Livin’ ”
» Eli Young Band – “Even If It Breaks Your Heart”
» Alan Jackson – “So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore”
» Eric Church – “Springsteen”
(I’m hoping that he wins this one, so that Carrie can win the next one.)

Best Country Solo Performance
» Dierks Bentley – “Home”
» Eric Church – “Springsteen”
» Ronnie Dunn – “Cost of Livin’ ”
» Hunter Hayes – “Wanted”
» Blake Shelton – “Over”
» Carrie Underwood – “Blown Away”
(I love me some Hunter Hayes, but should anyone ever beat Carrie Underwood in a performance category? The answer is no.)

Best Americana Album
» The Avett Brothers, The Carpenter
» John Fullbright, From the Ground Up
» The Lumineers, The Lumineers
» Mumford & Sons, Babel
» Bonnie Raitt, Slipstream
(I WANT THE LUMINEERS TO WIN! I LOVE THEM!)

This might have been the greatest day of my entire life!
WE GOT TO MEET TAYLOR HANSON.
I could hardly stay cool. It took every ounce of my self-restraint to keep the 8-year-old inside of me from doing cartwheels down the sidewalk.

Ribbons in my Nest

This past Monday was the one-year anniversary of That Time We Met Taylor Hanson. (By “we”, I mean my BFF and I. You can check out her blog here.)

We drove up to Kansas City to see Hanson, and we got to meet Taylor after the show! I won’t bore you with the details, seeing as how it was a year ago, but I’m just now getting around to getting the pictures off my camera. So here are a few of them.

Day 15: If you were an animal, what would you be and why?

I’d be a jelly fish. For sure. I’d be one of those Australian box jellyfish that are the most venomous. Why you ask? The answer is simple, jellyfish get to sting people. And unlike bees and wasps, when they sting people they don’t die. They get to terrorize people, and how fun does that sound?

Or I’d be a shark. Because, though I am deathly afraid of them, they are pretty freaking awesome. Nobody messes with sharks. They are the top of the food chain. Plus, I’d have my own theme music, and I’ve always wanted that.

Or maybe I’d be a polar bear. Because they are both ferocious and cuddly at the same time, just like me. (Not to mention they are adorable.)

Day 13: Nobody’s perfect (describe 5 weaknesses you have)

Weaknesses? What are those?? I have no weakness.

Jk. I have about a million weaknesses. But that’s okay. Weaknesses are a part of what makes us individuals. It’s all a part of our character, if nobody had any weaknesses we’d all be pretty boring. Not to mention we’d all probably be robots.

1. Animals. Furry creatures in all shapes and sizes have my heart. I want to save all endangered species, especially polar bears and tigers. Poor things! I get so angry at people who mistreat animals. Angry to the point of where I want to reciprocate the action. Kick a dog, I will kick you. Starve a horse, you should be starved. I want to adopt every puppy or kitten I ever see. That stupid Sarah McLachlan commercial gets me every time! I hate it so much. I won’t even watch it, I will change the channel to golf before I will watch that commercial. This is a little bit sad, and many people will judge me for this, but those mistreated animal commercials make me feel worse than the hungry children commercials. I know, I’m a horrible person.

2. Musicians. There is just something about them that I adore. Their whole demeanor and their attitudes. I am going to end up married to some charming, smooth-talking singer-songwriter/guitarist/pianist/drummer (*cough*boybander*cough). It’s inevitable. It is going to happen. And I wouldn’t want it any other way. He’s going to be really attractive. And he’s going to write songs about me and sing me to sleep. (I also have a bit of a soft spot for quarterbacks. And southern guys.)

3. Food. I know that you’d maybe expect me to list one certain food that is a weakness for me, but the truth is that all food is a weakness for me. I love me some food. And nothing on my list of favorites is healthy in anyway at all. In fact, I will intentionally avoid any foods that sound “too healthy.” I love baked goods: brownies, cookies, cupcakes, pies, cobblers and any other creative thing you could think to bake. I love comfort foods: mashed potatoes, gravy (I will literally put brown gravy on EVERYTHING), chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, corn, chili and stew. I love breakfast foods: chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns. I love ethnic food: tortellini, lasagna, enchiladas, orange chicken and fried rice.

I just love food. I am not looking forward to the day where I can no longer eat whatever I want, whenever I want without getting fat. That will be a very sad time in my life, because I will get huge. There will be no such thing as changing my eating habits, I will get fat. I’ll be that person who has to be lifted out of their house with a crane.

4. Can being too nice count as a weakness? I think it can. I am too nice, I’m a people pleaser (to a certain extent). I know that that little piece of info might shock some of you, but it’s true.

Person: Hey Misty, can you do this ridiculously hard/time consuming/inconvenient thing for me? For no pay?

Me: (in my head) Um, no. I’m offended you’d even ask me to do that!

Me: (in reality) Yeah, of course. No problem.

I am completely unable to say no. It’s become a problem. People take advantage of me, and it’s not cool. I do too many favors for people, but then they do not feel compelled to help me in return. I do nice things for people without the expectation of them doing anything remotely nice for for me (because it’s been my experience to have people not do anything nice for me, ever). Being nice is a good trait to have, but there comes a point where you become a doormat, and that’s not a good thing. I think that’s where I’m at right now. I just need to find that healthy line.

5.  I’m a dreamer. This is both a strength and a weakness for me. It’s a weakness because I have a hard time living in the now. I’m always thinking about where I want to be, where I could be, and imagining what my future might look like. I tend to live more in my imagined world than in the real world.

*Honorable mentions: Not being able to take things seriously. I’m a perpetual procrastinator. TV on DVD. Movies of all kinds. Buying dresses that I might never wear. Candy. Doritos.
